Sometimes it isn’t the deep questions that give us the greatest insight into how we’re doing emotionally, spiritually, or even physically.  Sometimes it is the simple, obvious, easily-overlooked ones that reveal the truth about where we are in our lives, and here’s one that may reveal more about you than you want to know!

When you wake up in the morning, do you find yourself grinning or groaning?

When I have become locked into a routine and everyday seems to be the “Groundhog Day” version of the same day I just put to bed hours earlier, I notice myself groaning at the thought of doing it all over again.  But have you ever noticed how you wake up when you expect something great?  Maybe it’s the day you leave for vacation, or a mission trip, or family is coming to visit.  Whatever it is, on those days you reach for the snooze button differently, and often even wake up smiling even before the alarm sounds.

It’s all about the answer to that simple question.  A grin or a groan?  Seeing a new day full of possibilities or hassles?

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19)

God doesn’t want us to settle for “the way things have always been.”  He loves to do new things, to change it up, to make streams go where they never would have before.

If you’re groaning more than you’re grinning, shake things up a little today.  Take the scenic route to work, call the friend you’ve been meaning to reconnect with, do something to help someone else.  You may find that you wake up differently in the morning.
