Reading Time: < 1 minute

April Fool’s Day is a great day for silly jokes and fun pranks. This is the day to pull out that fake vomit or pretend dog poop and freak out your family.

But it’s also a day to ask ourselves something a little more serious.

What is truth, and who can we trust to tell it to us?

Maybe you missed the incredibly realistic and fake Tom Cruise videos that recently went viral on TikTok, but you can’t escape the onslaught of agenda-driven reporting constantly bombarding all of us from media outlets.

What is truth? In John 17:17, Jesus tells us plainly that God’s Word is truth.

Who can we trust to tell us the truth? Again, Jesus gives us the answer in John 16:13 when He tells us that the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth.

Perhaps the recipe for not being deceived by things far more insidious than silly April Fool’s pranks is more simple than we realize? Turn down the volume on media and devote ourselves more fully to the word of truth and the Spirit of truth.

I’d like to invite you to join me this month in doing just that. I’m reading through the Gospels in April, and I’d love to have you join me. One month of reading the truth about the One who is the Truth and trusting the Spirit to lead us into all the truth as we do.

After all, the best way to recognize a fake is by knowing the real so well that the fake stands out.
