My guess is that you’ve heard about David before and how he fought and defeated a giant named Goliath. It’s a go-to story for preachers and Sunday school teachers everywhere.

That story has so many takeaways, twists, and turns, but the one verse that I’ve always found fascinating was the one that described what happened right at the beginning of their fight:

“As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.” (‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭17:48‬, emphasis mine)

It seems innocent enough until we stop and remember how much bigger Goliath was compared to David. This is a Chihuahua attacking a Great Dane. A lamb to the slaughter. One crazy little dude running toward certain death!

Well, that’s what everyone else thought. But not David! He’d already let us in on a secret in the words he spoke right before he started running: he was running toward certain victory!

[Tweet “David wasn’t running to the giant; he was running to a giant victory!”]

He knew that God was going to give him victory and that it would lead to his nation’s freedom. He wasn’t running to the giant; he was running to a giant victory!

If you were sure you’d won, how fast would you run to get to the celebration? If you were holding the winning lottery ticket, how quickly would you want the money?

Others see us running to the battle and think we’re crazy, but God sees us running to the victory party and drops the beat because He’s ready to celebrate with us the victory He promised He would give us.

What are you waiting for? Lace up those running shoes. We’ve got a party to start.
