People are searching. A lot.

In fact, Google processes over 99,000 searches every second. I know that because I just Googled it.

Doing some quick math (ok, maybe not so quick if you don’t have a calculator or if you refuse to search Google…again), that translates into 8.5 billion searches a day. 25 years ago, Google was searched just 10,000 times a day.

Not only are we searching, but the search is growing.

I’m not suggesting that we stop searching – I think there’s plenty of evidence in Scripture and nature to show that we’re hard-wired to search – but I do want to drop a simple thought into the search process.

What if instead of just searching FOR, we started searching WITH?

How would that change the searching? How would it change US while we’re searching?

David – the shepherd boy turned warrior king – dropped a legit truth bomb in the last verse of Psalm 16 when he said this about God:

“You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” (Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬ ‭NASB, emphasis mine)

“In Your presence is…”

Did you catch that? Knowing that God was WITH him didn’t stop David from searching for justice in situations, or victory over his enemies, or purpose in suffering, or joy in his circumstances. But it did change how he searched. Even a few verses before the one we just read, he had said that he wouldn’t be shaken, not because he’d found what he was searching for (enemies were still there), but because God was at his right hand.

He stopped searching for and started searching with, and that changed everything.

Can you imagine me sitting at the computer and searching Google for “the most beautiful woman in the world” while The B99 was sitting next to me? Google would probably spit back a top result of “Look beside you, idiot!”

May I remind you, follower of Jesus, that He is with you? Allow the reality of His presence to change how you search for things today. Do more than just search for things, and remember who you’re searching with.

I promise you that changing one word will change everything.
