Reading Time: 2 minutes

It seems like every time that the B99 and I would move from one home to the next, I would have the same strange experience. For a few weeks after the move, if I woke up in the middle of the night, it felt as if I hadn’t moved at all. I would lie there in the dark feeling disoriented as I tried to make sense out of why the window in the master bedroom was on the right side of the room instead of the left or why the bathroom was on the left instead of the right. Occasionally, I would reach for light switches that were no longer there only to realize that they were on the other side of the door frame.

In my mind, I saw the old house, and it made it harder to figure out the new house. But I was still actually in the new house, even if it took some time for my mind to catch up.

This is how I see the journey of faith now. We aren’t living in this old house until we die and then moving to a better, eternal home. We’ve already changed homes, y’all. Look at the words of Colossians 1:13-14:

“For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.” (emphasis mine)

We have been transferred. Sure, we’re still kicking around in this world and there may be times that we feel as if we’re still in the kingdom of darkness, but we’ve changed locations. We’re in the kingdom of light! That is our home, even on the days when it feels like we can’t find our way. Even on the days when we reach for light switches that we used to use and try to find things where they used to be. And especially on the days when we try to live in the new house based on our old ways and habits.

The enemy would whisper that nothing has changed, and yet in those times, God reminds us that he has transferred our residency to a new home, to a place of freedom and forgiveness. In those times of doubt and disorientation, the Father reassures us his promise is true, even if it doesn’t seem real yet.
